“’I’iwi” –Hawaiian Bird (3 X 5 in.)
Hawaii has tremendous diversity. This miniature painting is of a common bird from the slopes of Mauna Kea that is known as a “scarlet honey creeper”. The colorful plumage and curved beak make for an interesting portrait. It is able to get nectar from flowers due to the fact that its head/neck swivels dramatically. (tilted almost all the way back) It looks awkward and unnatural but the design is perfect for this environment.
