“Old Fashioned Grape Picking” (11 X 15)

Living in a grape growing region gives me abundant images to work with. This Hispanic worker is dumping a bucket full of grapes into a gondola. One can see the action by the way the shirt and pants react to the movement. You can almost feel the energy involved in doing this very physical work. The dappled light throughout the painting also adds a dimension of time….still early, before the sun is overhead.
Much of today’s harvesting of grapes is mechanized, so this image is becoming dated. This style of picking is still used in the older vineyards but eventually will probably become obsolete.
