“VOLCANO SUNSET” – GUATEMALA, CENTRAL AMERICA

While traveling in Guatemala, I had an opportunity to climb a volcano named Acatenango. It was a difficult task, at times almost straight up! But the 13,000 ft. summit was worth it. We arrived just as the sun was going down. A huge mushroom shaped cloud was forming right in front of us illuminated at the edges by the last rays of the sun. At this elevation we were above the clouds below. It was an awe-inspiring sight! (Just to prove we were still on the earth, I painted a portion of the volcano at the bottom) We spent the night at the top and had a fabulous view of an active volcano named “Fuego” which was only a half a mile away. We were humbled by our insignificance.
