” BOUNCING LIGHT” – WALL STREET, BRYCE N.P. (18 x 24in.)
I was fortunate to visit this National Park in the fall when few people were there. There was snow on the ground so hiking was icy and a bit precarious. From this view I am looking back down where I had just come up from. This lone hiker was about to descend around some rocks into the sunlit opening between the two vertical walls. (I needed him for a sense of scale and a splash of color) There was very little direct sunlight…all the light seemed to be reflected off the snow and bounced off the walls. Even the golden light in the middle of the painting is coming from the opposite side where the direct sunlight is bouncing from a wall we can’t see. Through the break in the walls, one can also see a small tree growing out of a rock wall and in the distance more formations. On the rim of the canyon you can barely make out some trees and eventually the blue sky.
