“Calalillies- Capitola, CA” (18×24)

This is another variety of flower that does extremely well along California’s coast. These calalillies were growing along the side walk…on one side is cement and the other side soil. As always, the play of light and shadows make this painting come alive. You are pulled into the dark recesses and return where there is strong sun. The curves of the leaves and flowers provide a sense of sensuality along with a loss of any linearity when thinking about the natural world. Once again the various shades of green allow the contrasting color of the flowers to be more noticeable. I also used the same colors when creating the soil on one side as well as the cement on the other …this also helped tie the painting together.
