“Caye Caulker- Belize” (12×18)
This is the view from my “hotel” while staying on this small island off the coast of Belize. It was a bright tropical morning with strong light and shadows. You can see that the weather is hard on any structure with the intense sunlight fading bright colors. All buildings are built up off the ground for high water (many hurricanes) as well as for better ventilation. The vivid colors of the clothes on the clothes line in contrast with all the lush greens of the jungle keep the eye interested. Also looking through the palm frond gives an extra sense of depth and perspective. The picket fence gives some order and linearity to the painting allowing the eye to rest in its neutral tones.
