“DOUBLE POINT” POINT REYES NATIONAL SEASHORE (12 x 18 in.)

Living fairly close to the coast allows me to come to this location quite often. Point Reyes is one of my most favorite places to hike. The hike out to Double Point basically follows the coast and gives some incredible vistas. With this view, the horizon is above the painting. I am looking south but one is not able to see the horseshoe nature of this place. The beach is inaccessible by land, the cliffs are too steep and the rock too crumbly. The only way in is by sea. From this vantage point you can see the rhythm of the breakers as they come towards shore and all the foam they agitate. Many times you are able to see sea lions or seals sunning themselves on the beach. The vegetation in the foreground lives in difficult conditions…wind swept, foggy, intense sun, and at times…arid, nothing gets too big. Still, under the right conditions, there can be intense greens and a profusion of wild flowers. On this particular day the colors were not as vibrant but the vista was just as captivating.
