“Lotus Flower- Ubud, Bali” (18×24)
The lotus is a very special flower for many religions and philosophies in East Asia. You will find it almost anywhere their is fresh water…it is extremely ubiquitous. This painting was inspired by my time spent on Bali, Indonesia. A single flower rising up through the water and above the lily pads is quite captivating. The fragile quality of its petals with their subtle coloring attracted my attention. The mostly white flower set against diverse shades of green gives a sense of harmony. Every element plays a part and works together …everything from the water, sun, pads, stems, buds, mature flowers. They come into being, thrive and then return to where they came from…a complete circle.
Like previous paintings, the element of a powerful light brings this image alive. The play of light and shadow illuminates parts and hides others. It invites the viewer in to participate in the piece. What do you see?
