“MORNING FUCHSIAS” (11 x 14in.)

These fuchsias are also located in Capitola, California. This perspective is a little unusual…looking up to see this branch of flowers floating in the sky. The horizon is much lower and can only be hinted at by the crowns of the trees in the background. The fuchsias, in various stages of development, as well as the leaves and branches provided an interesting challenge. I wanted to give them a sense of vitality so you could almost feel their suspension in the space above you. The quality of light was also important…there had to be a depth and definition to the composition. The graded blue wash of the sky serves well as  a backdrop and the tops of the trees at the bottom provides a sturdy foundation.
