” Shutters” (18×24)

What attracts me to the media of watercolor is the ability to achieve such vibrant colors. This painting allowed me to push an ordinary scene to a point where it is fun and entertaining to look at. As with many of my paintings a powerful source of light is present brightening the colors as well as in areas that are not in direct light. Many viewers may also be able to connect with the the old truck and either had one (or a similar one) or knew someone who did. The straight lines and perpendicular nature of the shutters are in contrast to the cushioning straw in the bed of the truck and the bale on the ground. The ability of watercolors to achieve a realistic texture representing the weathering process is remarkable. This is noticeable both in the truck bed and the wood siding of the barn.
