“Spider Rock- Canyon de Chelly, AZ”

Looking down at this formation from the rim of the canyon makes the horizon very high. Still this “bird’s eye ” view makes for an interesting perspective. It was early fall but snow had already fallen. Patches of snow remained on the canyon floor. As the shadows creped across the floor one notices a small river that flows through the canyon. Following it winding course you find your self at a distant part of the canyon. You come up to the rim and notice other rock formations in the distance but slowly come back and spend more time on the other side of the canyon…noticing all the erosion and the patterns it has created. Coming forward you see Spider Rock again. You explore the striations of this sacred Indian site and end up at the bottom where the sunlight is intense as it shines on the rust colored rock and the subdued green of the vegetation.
Such ethereal beauty… one can understand its importance in Navajo cosmology
