“Sunset- Monument Valley, UT” (18×24)
It was a cold fall day in Monument Valley when I captured this scene. Twilight is frequently the best time for colors and quality of light. As the sun is about to set, shadows are elongated which accentuate the rock that is still in sun light…making it almost seem to glow. The foreground is still in sunlight with some tuffs of grass catching the final direct rays. Beyond this, the valley is in shadow. Still your eye is pulled up to the light and dark masses of the near mesa and further to the distant one. Eventually you notice the sky and the subtle colors that add to the overall mood of the painting. My hope is that through my painting I am able to share a part of that mysterious world with others.
