“TULIPS AND CROCUSES” (12 x 18 in.)
Watercolor can be a perfect medium for capturing the fragile and temporal beauty of a floral scene. These flowers are often found together. Their contrasting colors makes the image more dynamic. The orange and the yellow of the tulips blend well together. It is quite satisfying to see the pigments interact (although there is always a mysterious element….you never really know what will happen). The crocuses are hidden in between but their color gives depth to the painting. The translucent stems with their subtle colors, as well as the leaves, help with the linear perspective. The eye connects with the big flowers and then moves to the smaller images behind. It is a very colorful image but the color harmonies make it a successful painting.
