“Zelda’s- Capitola, CA” (18×24)

For me this painting captures a moment in time that happens fairly frequently along the coast. It is mid- morning at the beach and people are starting to come out and enjoy the day. A restaurant at the beach gives people a perfect atmosphere to enjoy the fresh air and savor some good food/beverage with friends or by yourself. The fog is backing away off the coast and the sun is out. It is not too hot yet, people can still be in direct sun light but umbrellas are coming up for the inevitable…needed shade. One can almost feel the shade of the big yellow umbrella…it is inviting you into the picture. The powerful morning light helps illuminate the fragrant flowers in front which also lures you into the serene environment.

I specialize in watercolors that are inspired by my world travels. My subject matter ranges from South American landscapes to the flora of California. The use of bright colors, original designs and exotic settings are components I bring to my paintings. The incredible range of transparent watercolor allows me to capture the fragile beauty of a single flower or the somber mood of a gray day. For me, an artist is only limited by their imagination and technical skill. The elements of control and spontaneity make it a challenging endeavor. The thought of ever mastering the medium becomes more and more elusive and perhaps a goal never to be fully achieved.

I find the process of creating watercolors very satisfying and it also provides many side benefits…the greatest of these is the ability to see beauty everywhere.
